# Policy & Representation Page
“`text Effective policy begins with understanding what is actually happening on farms, in fishing communities and across the businesses that support Gozo’s primary sectors. GCAF works directly with sector representatives to identify problems, develop common positions and communicate practical proposals to the institutions responsible for policy, regulation and investment. Our approach is based on evidence, dialogue and workable solutions. Agriculture and fisheries are directly exposed to changing environmental conditions. Drought, extreme temperatures, storms, changing rainfall patterns and pressure on natural resources increasingly affect how Gozo’s primary sectors operate. GCAF supports policies that help producers adapt while ensuring that environmental requirements remain practical, proportionate and achievable. European policy has a major influence on agriculture, fisheries and rural development in Gozo. GCAF works to ensure that the island’s particular circumstances are taken into account in discussions relating to the Common Agricultural Policy, fisheries policy, rural development and European funding. We also seek to improve awareness of opportunities that can support investment, innovation and resilience.
