ABOUT GCAF

A United Voice for Gozo’s Agriculture and Fisheries

The Gozo Confederation for Agriculture and Fisheries brings together organisations and stakeholders from across Gozo’s agriculture, livestock and fisheries sectors to strengthen representation, cooperation and long-term resilience.

Who We Are

The Gozo Confederation for Agriculture and Fisheries (GCAF) provides a common platform for the people and organisations working within Gozo’s primary sectors.

The Confederation was created to strengthen cooperation, improve representation and ensure that the realities experienced by farmers, livestock breeders and fishers are properly reflected in policy discussions and decision-making.

GCAF brings together sector organisations, producer groups, cooperatives and other stakeholders with a shared interest in protecting and strengthening Gozo’s rural and maritime economy.

Our work is rooted in the practical experience of the people working every day across Gozo’s fields, farms and fishing communities.

Why Gozo Needs Its Own Strong Sector Voice

Gozo’s island and regional characteristics create a number of realities that need to be properly understood when policies and support measures are developed.

Island & Transport Costs

Moving goods, feed, equipment and produce between Gozo and Malta can create additional costs and logistical pressures.

Small Market & Scale

The relatively small size of the local market can affect competitiveness, investment decisions and economies of scale.

Land & Water Pressure

Access to productive agricultural land and reliable water remains critical to the viability of farming.

Infrastructure & Services

Producers need infrastructure and services that reflect the practical realities of farming, livestock production and fishing in Gozo.

Climate & Environmental Pressures

Drought, heat, storms and changing weather conditions increasingly affect both agriculture and fisheries.

Generational Renewal

Young people need realistic opportunities to enter, invest in and build viable futures within the primary sectors.

Our Approach

Constructive dialogue. Practical solutions. Strong representation.
GCAF’s approach is based on listening to the people working within the sector, identifying shared challenges and engaging constructively with the institutions capable of delivering change. We aim to move discussions from identifying problems towards practical, workable solutions for Gozo.
